When we found out we were unexpectedly expecting that was a big surprise. I have since surprised myself by committing to wait until the baby is born to find out the gender. I never thought that I would be able to do that. However, in this situation I think it's appropriate.
We had our ultrasound about two weeks ago and were successful at not finding out. There's no turning back now unless the tech wrote it down somewhere and one of the doctors accidentally blurts it out. The ultrasound showed that the baby is healthy. I do have to return in a few months for a follow up ultrasound because my placenta has not moved up which could mean placenta previa. I hope it all resolves. I feel confident that things will work out as they should.
Here are a few pictures of the little tyke:

What a cutie! I can tell:) I am rarely surprised. But, that is mostly due to the fact that Jay doesn't hide his clues very well. I often find receipts or boxes and between those and what I've requested, I can usually guess what my gift is.
I'm not sure I could ever wait until birth to find out the gender though. Especially now, with three boys. If we were to have another, I think I'd need to know girl or boy so that there was never a moment of disappointment at birth. I can't imagine I would feel anything other than tender love, but I'd hate myself forever if my first thought was, "bummer".
I can't wait to meet your new little!
Good for you. Our little surprise was quite fun, as I'm sure you remember.
